Why do I need training?

Flight training when during your first few hours of flying makes a very big difference. If you have been to a field with a few heli fliers you are sure to see somebody bouncing around on the training undercarriage. The problem with this method of learning is that it is risky and long winded you have 4 controls to contend with and one wrong move can find you sailing off frozen on the sticks and finally dumping it in panic. Fixed wing flying in a lot of ways is worse, they get a long way away very quickly even the so called trainers.

As you can see getting help during those first moments can save you a lot of time and money. Some flying clubs offer help but these are mostly volunteers who often don't have enough time to help everybody or who aren't willing or able to connect up a buddy box system its not their fault they are there to fly their own models.

Later on in their flying career some people need some help to further their skills this is especially true of helis its not always obvious where to go next and how to get there and its easy to miss out on some of the basics without which makes life a lot harder down the line.

How is it done?

If your not familiar with the buddy system. It consists of 2 transmitters connected by a special lead. This lead connects the slave transmitter to the master. The master transmitter has a sprung switch on it, when this switch is held in the on position the master transmitter takes the signals coming from the slave transmitter through the lead and passes them out to the model using the masters radio signal. Using the software in the master transmitter we can decide which of the controls get passed to the slave. the ones that aren't are still controlled by the master. This system allows me to push your limits in perfect safety.

With the aid of a buddy system I can take some of the controls away from you to ease the work load then as you grow in confidence we can build them up. I use this method for all skill levels, it greatly quickens the learning process giving you value for money and satisfaction. The buddy lead also gives ultimate safety.

What model do you use?

Where possible if you have a suitable model for training on we will use yours. it is what your used to flying and what you will be flying in the long term. All models fly slightly differently.

However not all models are suitable for training on. Micro helis offer little reserve and can be difficult to recover especially in windy conditions or tight spaces. Also if you are not using a futaba or JR transmitter i will not be able to buddy box with your model.

In the circumstances of you not having a suitable model or incompatible transmitter I have a number of helicopters and fixed wing powered and gliders we can use.

The Fleet:

The helicopter I use is a Knight 50 equipped with an OS50 hyper futaba 601 gyro and all digital servos. This model is capable of taking you right from the basics of hovering thought to full on 3d aerobatics.

For fixed wing beginners most would pick one of the glow powered trainers however i find that these have very little power reserve meaning its harder to get them out of trouble once you do get them into trouble. The model I use is a YT international Adrenaline 1.20. It is big so you can see it in the sky easily, stable, accurate with vice free handling. This model is good for pattern style flying too. If you wish to learn 3d we also have the use of a Funtana 90s equiped with a YS110.

For gliding I use a competition proven gulp SR, Slope version of the Tornado and an X-models mini Blade 1.5 DS full carbon and a Brisk II The Tornado, Blade and brisk are available from South Coast Sailplanes all 4 are performance models in their respective classes.
